Terms of Specimen Acquisition

Governing Protocols for Sonic Specimens & Soundscapes

Last Updated: Cycle 7, 5878 (January 2026)

By acquiring any specimen or soundscape from the Symphagos Expedition, you enter into a binding agreement with Dr. Dara Dawes and the HMS Bugle research initiative. Please peruse these protocols carefully before completing your acquisition.

1. Grant of License

Upon successful acquisition (purchase or free download), you are granted a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the specimen(s) for personal and commercial purposes.

This means you MAY:

  • Use sounds, loops, and samples in your own musical compositions
  • Release commercial music containing these sounds (Spotify, YouTube, film, games, etc.)
  • Use plugins (VST/AU) in your productions without royalty payments
  • Install plugins on machines you own, up to the activation limit specified

2. Restrictions

You may NOT:

  • Resell, redistribute, or share the original specimen files
  • Include raw, unprocessed samples in sample packs or sound libraries for sale
  • Share your license key with others
  • Claim ownership of the specimens themselves (only your music made with them)
  • Use specimens in projects that promote hatred, violence, or illegal activity

3. Ownership

All specimens, soundscapes, plugins, artwork, and associated materials remain the intellectual property of Symphagos / Dr. Dara Dawes. Your license grants usage rights, not ownership of the underlying assets.

4. Refund Policy

Due to the digital nature of these specimens, all acquisitions are final. No refunds will be issued once a specimen has been delivered.

If you experience technical difficulties preventing download or use, contact Expedition Communications for support.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

Specimens are provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. While we strive for compatibility across standard digital audio workstations, we cannot guarantee functionality in all environments.

6. Limitation of Liability

The Symphagos Expedition shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use or inability to use these specimens, including but not limited to lost projects, corrupted files, or creative disappointments.

7. Updates to Terms

These terms may be updated periodically. Continued use of specimens after changes constitutes acceptance of new terms. Major changes will be announced via expedition transmissions.
